Exams & Theory
read moreTo understand the theory behind the music gives a student greater depth and insight when learning to play an instrument. To be able to take instrument Grade 6 exams or above with the 'Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music' students must have achieved a pass at Grade 5 level theory. We therefore generally include theory into each practical lesson as part of the on-going instrumental tuition. Students are provided with regular homework and encouraged to study at home. Musical theory can also be studied as a subject in its own right; lessons can be given on a one-to-one basis or in small groups for a minimum of half an hour a week.
Instruments
read moreBefore commencing regular lessons students need to own or have access to their chosen instrument as regular practice at home is essential for musical development. If you have not yet chosen an instrument and would like guidance before purchasing please feel free to contact us for advice. One-to-one piano lessons are offered from the age of 6 upwards, we use a range of different course books depending on the student. For the younger learner we use CD backing tracks with certain songs/books thus creating a fun environment whilst at the same time introducing playing with accompaniment.
Term Dates
read moreAlthough we follow school term dates closely, we are not closed for teacher training days. If you miss a lesson for any reason, even when notice is given, we cannot guarantee to make your lesson time up.
